The Ranchero
Predating the El Camino by 2 years, the Ranchero was a small pickup based on 1957's all-new full-sized Ford sedan platform. Offering simple and easy use, a wide variety of drive-trains, the Ranchero was a popular and versatile vehicle. Growing along with its sedan counterparts in 1959, it even offered a 7-foot bed and a cargo capacity that eclipsed Ford's own Half-ton truck by 50 pounds.
In 1960, the Ranchero made a radical change, moving away from Ford's full-sized platform and onto its completely brand new compact sedan - the Ford Falcon. Now a modern unibody chassis, the Ranchero dropped 8 inches of wheelbase and over 1100 pounds of curb weight from the previous year, becoming a significantly more efficient and fun to drive car in the process. It now offered 144, 170 inch six cylinder, and 260 inch eight cylinder engines, with a variety of automatic and manual transmission choices. The Falcon platform would prove to be incredibly prolific, with sedans, pickup trucks, vans, and more variants all being based on it, finally culminating with a coupe in 1964 - the Mustang.
This 1963 Ford Ranchero is a 3 owner survivor, with a 200 inch Mustang straight six, a classic Three-on-the-Tree shifter, bench seat, and 4 generations of family memories. With an unrestored exterior, a refreshed and patina'd interior, and a long list of true quality of life improvements, this little truck continues to see use hauling cargo in addition to sunset cruises and car shows. The ultimate summer event vehicle, its knee-height tailgate offers easy-on-the-back logistics and comfortable tailgate seating.
Purchased in 1992 from its original owner by Donald Daly, this vehicle received a refreshed engine and a host of mechanical fixes to get it back in functional shape. With low miles, it was a perfect project after a lifetime of projects - from sports cars, to lowriders, minitrucks, and motorcycles. Don had an incredible eye for hidden automotive gems, and wanted to save and restore an oddball classic.
Passing to Don's son Michael Daly in 1996, the Ranchero served as a rocketship, sailing vessel, submarine, and moonbase, among a host of other imagination driven adventures in the backyard for his 5 kids, while doing its duty running laps around town with a cargo bed of kids for evening joyrides.
As long-term maintenance and 5 kids worth of life intervened, it spent almost 15 years waiting for its next lease on life, receiving a mild mechanical restoration in 2017. After its extended stay with the nationally recognized Falcon specialist Jerry Kratz of KP Automotive, the Ranchero found its second wind with the Daly's.
From hauling Christmas Trees in style, to cruising the main drag at the shore, and car meets with friends and family, this well loved and happy little truck continues to bring smiles to our family, and we hope it does for you too.
